The "Hot Mess" Summer Of 2026

At the end of march I decided to take a leap of faith and move my private voice studio to a barn on my parent's property. I also thought I'd take the opportunity to move my mother's art studio with me. A sort of music and art barn...lol!
And since then, I started working on creating a landing page that does a better job of describing what I do for my clients and created an app experience where booking lessons, voice exercises, and community are all in one place. I'm still working out all the kinks but it's been fun exploring what I can currently offer and the places that need improvement. Y'all I need a lot of upgrades...😳
For the moment I'm just playing around with content for the app and have something called “Hot Take Thursday”. Which are silly videos in our private group about vocal exercises or just wellbeing.

Ok here is where I insert the honest truth. This "leap of faith" along with other projects I'm currently juggling have been all consuming, overwhelming, stressful and downright soul crushing. And if I were to label this entire summer (to stay on my "hot" theme here) at this point I would call it, “hot mess summer 2026”.

Nothing, I mean nothing has gone as planned. Our voice/art studio was supposed to have very minimal updates to make the old barn feel slightly less piecemealed together. This place is old, real old. It was built in 1937.
The plan was to do some small replacements this summer and then tackle one project at a time throughout the next few years. At this point, nothing has been done and the studio opens in a month.
Dont worry, it's slightly better than the picture on the right. 😂
This reminds me of those reality TV shows where someone is doing a renovation and the host comes in and is like “Why is this not done??! We open in days!!” 🤣
Well, I know why it’s not done and it all boils down to dominos. Can’t really start a project when the first three dominoes keep restarting.
Anyway, there are no progress photos because there has been no progress. 🤣 And to top everything off, this last week was one of the hardest weeks I’ve had in a really long time.
It started when I lifted a tarp to reveal a swarm of wasps. It was scary but luckily somehow I only managed to get stung twice. At first I was concerned about an allergic reaction and my weird autoimmune body, but it seemed like my reaction was going to be normal-ish. However, after a couple days of blurry fatigue and some numbness, I decided that it would be best if I headed to urgent care the next morning. It was late at night...I was a mess...don't judge.
Perhaps I just needed another day of rest because when I awoke the next morning, I discovered most of my symptoms had vanished and there was no longer a need for urgent care. However... that same morning I got a call that my mom had fallen in Cincinnati and broken her hip and was at the hospital waiting for emergency hip replacement surgery. She had been on a trip with her pastor at an art intensive, learning about gold foiling. My father immediately rushed up from Kentucky to Cincy while I started prepping the house and caring for my sister (a person with disabilities).
So it’s been a doozy! My mom handled the surgery well and is on a road to recovery. Our little family is doing ok, but as you can imagine we’re a bit drained. Oddly enough I’m so grateful for the little coincidences that seemed to occur just when needed.
But all of this to say, while it’s been a hot mess and total chaos, the whole reason I’m even doing this “move to the barn” thing, was to be closer to help out when needed and for my mom to have an art studio that had no stairs for future easy access. It’s funny how the universe or God moves you to where you need to be. That gut feeling you have may be more than you think, right?
My beautiful clients know all about this crazy road I've been walking. From the moment when I was gently nudged to move my sessions to a new room in a church that just didn't feel right, to searching around town getting nowhere for a multitude of honestly reasonable reasons, to then deciding there were plenty of good reasons to change an old barn into a studio: it’s funny how things work out.
Also, sometimes it’s just not all rainbows, right? Like sometimes it really is “hot mess summer 2026”. And instead of always posting our wins in our communities, sometimes it really is ok to post the truth. Not to have people “fix” anything or to vent or for any particular reason other than (and here i quote my dear friend Natali) “a solidarity in sometimes things being 💩”. Because sometimes it is.
And sometimes the transformation that you believe is happening all around you, actually needs to happen in you first and everything else will follow as needed. It’s not easy by any means but we’re not alone.🦋🦋🦋💗

P.S.
There was ONE place that worked out in town. The scheduling only worked out for me to be there once a month but it is the beautful Yoga and Wellness Centre in Somerset KY. I'm living in the moment and trying to be available to serve those that need me in these two spaces. I'm excited to continue there every 2nd Wednesday of the month until the end of the year.
